The House of Rice, founded by Shay Dior, is Vancouver's iconic all Asian drag family composed of incredible artists who are hungry to showcase the beauty, talent, and strength in being a QTPOC individual. Chock-full of artistry and talent, the members of this iconic house have collectively and individually become inspiring leaders for the queer and Asian communities.
Since its inception in 2018, the House of Rice has been able to showcase the range of their diverse skill set through various collaborations with Love Intersections, Pride in Chinatown, Out in Schools, Cinevolution Media Arts, Slanted, The Polygon Gallery, and Headmaster Magazine, a queer publication from Rhode Island. During the pandemic, they were also invited by Upintheair Theatre to co-produce two digital House of Rice shows: “In Rice-olation” at the eVolver Festival, and “Connection Error: Attempting to reconnect…” for The Array Festival, both in 2020. With an accomplished reputation in such a short time, the House of Rice and Shay Dior have also been featured in multiple documentaries, such as Yellow Peril: Queer Destiny, and CBC Arts: Canada is a Drag, which leaves no question as to how important their work is.
